Prostate Cancer Symptoms – What To Do If You Have An Enlarged
The prostate gland is a walnut-sized organ found only in men, and when it is enlarged, this can mean many things but it is likely not one of the many prostate cancer symptoms. However, prostate cancer is a leading killer of American men and the disease is one of the most commonly diagnosed in the States. So what are prostrate cancer symptoms and what should you do about them?
Prostate cancer usually grows very slowly and oftentimes those infected with the disease will die first of other medical complications or age without ever knowing they had it in the first place; similarly, they may ignore the subtle symptoms that gradually build over a long period of time and not properly diagnose and treat the cancer. Still, prostate cancer sometimes grows quickly. Whatever the case, early detection is key. This isnít a reason for you to panic over abnormalities in your prostrate gland; you should simply be aware of any issues and see a doctor if you have questions or concerns.
The most obvious of the prostate cancer symptoms is an enlarged prostate. But 50% of all men will suffer from prostatitus, or an inflamed prostate, in their lifetime, without ever having prostate cancer. If your prostate is swollen or tender, you may have a urinary tract infection or other various conditions and not cancer at all. So what other symptoms in addition to an inflamed gland can you look out for?
If prostate cancer symptoms are detected early on, you may not experience any symptoms. However, if the disease has been in your system for a while then you may encounter the following:
- Frequent and sudden urination, often during nighttime
- Difficulty urinating
- Weak urine stream
- Painful urination and/or ejaculation
- Sexual dysfunction
- Blood in semen or urine
- Pain in the joints and the lower back
Each one of these prostate cancer symptoms also can indicate other prostate gland problems that are fortunately benign. Prostatitus is a common disorder among men and there are various types of it Ė it is usually transmitted through sex. However, whether you are suffering from cancer or a minor disorder, itís vital to take these symptoms seriously and immediately consult your doctor about them. Those who are diagnosed with prostate cancer will most likely have a great prognosis Ė but only if they pay attention to the symptoms and diagnose and treat the prostatitus or cancer.
